Year 5 and 6 students of BCM/BScBS

Objectives and Expected Benefits:

This internship programme is an integral part of the BCM/BScBS programme requirement. Students are provided with opportunities to conduct clinical internship in a first-rate TCM hospital in Mainland China. Extensive clinical attachment to various specialty wards and clinics will be offered to students with an aim of enhancing their clinical skills and experience through in-depth training.

Specialty Studies and Professional Training of Chinese Medicine
Time:

The 6th year of BCM/BScBS programme

Place:

1. Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China
2. CM Clinics under HKBU

Duration:

12 weeks

Target Students:

Year 6 students of BCM/BscBS

Objectives and Expected Benefits:

After one-year placement in various outpatient wards in the Guangdong Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, students have grasped the basic theories and skills of Chinese medicine clinical practice. On this basis, 12 units (12 weeks) of specialist enhancement training is arranged with the following aims and objectives: (1) to enhance clinical theories and skills of Chinese medicine in areas of internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology, pediatics, acupuncture and orthopaedics and traumatology; (2) to enforce training in Chinese medicine theories of differentiation and treatment and practical skills; and (3) to learn from the unique experiences of the supervisoty teachers. All practices can help students to adapt clinical works as soon as possible after graduation.

Supervised Practicum I for BPharm Programme
Time:

In the summer of 1st year of BPharm programme

Local or Mainland botanical gardens

Duration:

2 weeks

Target Students:

BPharm Year 1

Objectives and Expected Benefits:

This practicum is an integral part of the BPharm programme requirement. It is expected that students will acquire knowledge of medicinal botany through exploring different study areas of this field.

Supervised Practicum II & III for BPharm Programme
Time:

In the summer of 3rd year & the 4th year of BPharm programme

Place:

  • Chinese medicine clinics of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Yan Chai Hospital, Yan Oi Tong, Pok Oi Hospital and HKBU

Duration:

3.5 months

Target Students:

BPharm Year 3 & 4

Objectives and Expected Benefits:

This practicum is an integral part of the BPharm programme requirement. It is expected that students will benefit from the supervised practicum through:

  • Conducting unique processing of Chinese materia medica and examining the quality of Chinese medicinal decoction pieces;
  • Practising dispensing skill and pharmacy management in the dispensing sector, storage room of Chinese medicinal decoction pieces, and decoction preparation sector of Chinese medicine hospitals and clinics; and
  • Exercising the production and quality examination of proprietary Chinese medicines.
