The “Ba Min Cultural Journey - the 8th Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan University Students’ Zhu Xi Study Camp” co-organised by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), was held in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, from 10 to 16 August. More than 70 students and teachers from over 10 higher education institutions participated in the programme, exploring Zhu Xi’s philosophy and the rich cultural heritage of Fujian.

At the opening ceremony of the study camp, Professor Yang Chun, Associate Dean (Research) of FASS and Honorary Advisor of the study camp, shared the contemporary value of Zhu Xi’s value.

Throughout the seven-day study camp, participants retraced the footsteps of Zhu Xi and explored Fujian’s rich academic traditions. They visited historic sites such as Sanfang Qixiang, Nanxi Academy and Zhuzi Cultural Park. They also engaged in interactive exchanges with local university students, participated in cultural immersion workshops, and attended in-depth lectures on Zhu Xi’s philosophy and Confucian thought.

The organisers of the event included the Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Foreign Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and the Hong Kong Zhu Xi Cultural Exchange Association.

Zhu Xi was a renowned Chinese philosopher, scholar, and educator during the Song Dynasty, best known for developing and systematising Neo-Confucianism. Fujian was a significant base for his work, where his ideas and educational reforms deeply influenced the local culture.
