Chinese medicine representatives celebrate Chinese New Year at HKBU

The School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) held a Spring Reception on campus on 25 February, bringing together over 200 distinguished guests from government departments, the Chinese medicine industry and academia, alongside the University’s senior management team members and staff, students and alumni of SCM.

In his welcoming address, Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor, expressed his gratitude to the tremendous support from friends in various sectors. Professor Wai remarked that HKBU has always been at the forefront of health sciences, persistently transforming the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine into innovative therapies and pharmaceutical products. He also praised the School for its remarkable scientific achievements.

Mr Dominic Ho, Acting Commissioner for Chinese Medicine Development of the Health Bureau, stated that Chinese medicine services are an integral part of the healthcare system in Hong Kong. He added that the Government will formulate a Chinese Medicine Development Blueprint, launch a Digitalised Chinese Medicines Information Platform, and promote the development of integrated Chinese and Western medicine services.

Mr Huen Wong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of HKBU Chinese Medicine Hospital Company Limited, introduced the core management team members of the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Hospital. He said that the Hospital, expected to commence service in phases starting from late 2025, will provide high-quality clinical service to the general public and become the flagship in teaching and training, scientific research, multi-lateral collaborations, and the creation of value for health.

In his vote of thanks, Professor Lyu Aiping, Vice-President (Research and Development) cum Dean of Graduate School and Acting Dean of Chinese Medicine, thanked all the sectors for their care, support and concern for the School. He reviewed SCM’s teaching and research achievements over the past year and expressed his aspiration for the School to integrate the theories and experience of Chinese medicine with modern biomedical, life sciences, and data sciences, fostering new models for the future medical development in Hong Kong.
