HKBU’s Department of Social Work held the Closing Ceremony cum Mother’s Day Carnival for the “Professional Support Advisory Network for Student Suicide Prevention” project on campus on 13 May. The event attracted about 200 participants, including social workers, parents and teachers.

Funded by the Keswick Foundation and Mindset, the Project was directed by Professor Daniel Wong, Chair Professor of the Department of Social Work as its Principal Investigator. The second phase of this one-year project was launched in April last year, providing online foundation and face-to-face practical courses on preventing adolescent suicide and improving their mental health to more than 200 social workers and secondary school teachers.

The Project also co-organised parent education activities with the Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, attracting the participation of more than 2,200 parents. Among them, more than 40 parents obtained the certificate of the parent leadership training course. They are now capable of organising mental health or parenting activities in schools with the assistance of social workers.
