The Centre for Sino-Christian Studies and the Chaplain’s Office at HKBU held the “Floating Platforms” art exhibition from 4 to 29 May at the Cattle Depot Artist Village in To Kwa Wan. It showcased the artworks created by HKBU students, artists, and students of two secondary schools, which explored the changing distance and boundary between people, and how they found the right balance in their relationship for peacebuilding in the community.
The exhibition, co-organised by St. James’ Settlement, is the highlight of the peacebuilding programme “Action Ark”. It was inspired by a geological phenomenon of plate tectonics. The six artworks respectively carried the themes of Hong Kong people living abroad, the grassroots’ views of community, people’s sense of community, seeing Hong Kong through the eyes of an outsider, the lives of secondary school students in the community, and embarking on a journey of personal growth. With the guidance of the artists, HKBU students jointly created four exhibits with students from S.K.H. All Saints’ Middle School and S.K.H. Bishop Baker Secondary School.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Foundation, the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia, and the Institute of Creativity at HKBU. Participating artists included Mr Rajat Sharma who is also a PhD student of the Department of Journalism at HKBU, Dou Chai Arts, Mr Tang Kwok-hin, Ms Sally Leung, Ms Sharon Lee, and Ms Zoe Siu. The project partners are contemporary visual arts institution 1a space and the Centre for Innovative Service-Learning at HKBU.
