The Academy of Visual Arts at HKBU and the Common Ground Research Networks jointly hosted the 9th International Conference on The Image recently. The conference was organised to trigger debate and critical discussion on how artists and scholars deal with image in the age of big data and artificial intelligence.
Three leading scholars, Professor Richard William Allen from the School of Creative Media at the City University of Hong Kong, Professor Dina Iordanova from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, and Professor Mette Hjort, Dean of Arts at HKBU, were invited to deliver keynote speeches at the event.
Professor Allen discussed “Consciousness and the Machine”, while Professor Iordanova delivered a speech on “Navigation and Curation in the Era of Digital Disruption”. Finally, Professor Hjort spoke about “The Public Value of Film: Moving Images, Health, and Well-being”.
