Dr Stephen Hui Research Centre for Physical Recreation and Wellness (CPRW) of HKBU was awarded a grant of HK$5.06m from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust to offer an 18-month dementia prevention programme to local non-government organisations, starting from 22 February.
Jockey Club BIGMAP (Brain Invigoration and Gross Motor Activation Programme) is a centre-based programme for older adults led by Professor Chow Bik-chu, Director of CPRW, and Professor Frank Fu, Honorary Director of CPRW, with team members Professor Lena Fung, former professor the Department of Physical Education, and CPRW Research Fellows Miss Ip Hay-wood, Ms Polina Cheng, and Dr Yvonne Yuan .
The programme provides carefully selected games, activities and talks with the aim of enhancing participants’ cognitive functions and physical fitness, and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The overarching goal of the project is to enhance the cognitive function and the physical fitness of older adults in Hong Kong and prevent dementia.
