The HKBU Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning and the Language Centre jointly organised the Teaching Development and Language Enhancement Symposium cum Book Launch recently. The activity, which gathered more than 110 participants from HKBU and sister institutions, facilitated the exchange of pedagogical ideas and sharing of the outcomes of teaching and learning projects.
In his keynote presentation, Professor David Gibson, The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization Chair of Data Science in Higher Education Learning and Teaching and the Director of Learning Futures at Curtin University, talked about several studies on game-based learning among the younger generation. He cited examples of game-inspired pedagogy aimed at stimulating student learning, such as asking the student to be “The hero of your own story” or to “Work on your own time, along your own path” to help them develop their own style of learning.
The book entitled E-Portfolios in Higher Education was presented at a book launch as part of the symposium. The book, co-edited by Dr Tushar Chaudhuri, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Government and International Studies, introduces the use of ePortfolios to record good teaching practices and enhance student learning.
