The School of Continuing Education (SCE) recently organised a study programme for secondary school principals from Zhaoqing, Guangdong Province. Revolving around the theme “International Perspectives and Cutting-edge Leadership”, the programme comprised a series of seminars and local school visits aimed at enhancing participants’ understanding of the current developments in the education sector both locally and internationally, as well as to broaden their horizons and raise management standards.

A total of 35 secondary school principals from Zhaoqing attended the programme during which veteran educators and scholars from SCE were invited to deliver seminars on various topics including “Overview of Hong Kong Education System”, “Education Philosophy, Strategic Direction and Quality Assurance”, “Teacher Professional Development and Growth”, “School Management and Crisis Management”, “School Uniqueness and Public Relations Strategies”, “Special Education and School-based Policies”, “Informationisation and Management of Education” and “Principles of Curriculum Design: International Experiences and the Hong Kong Context”.

In addition, a number of visits were arranged to provide participants with an opportunity to understand more about aided and direct subsidy scheme secondary schools in Hong Kong. Through interaction with the local secondary school principals, participants have gained in-depth knowledge of the operations and management of secondary schools in Hong Kong.

Professor Raymond So, Dean of SCE, said: “Following the success of the ‘Study Programme in Hong Kong for Primary School Principals from Zhaoqing City, Guangdong’ held last year, this year the School devised another programme intended for secondary school principals. Through discussion on various topics and school visits, we hope to create some new mindsets and new learning experiences so as to connect the development and management of education on the Chinese mainland to worldwide standards.”
