The Department of Education Studies recently collaborated with the Interdisciplinary Council on Development and Learning, a US-based not-for-profit organisation, to organise a talk by Dr Joshua Feder, Associate Clinical Professor of University of California at San Diego School of Medicine. Dr Feder shared his views on the topic of “Using Technology to Support Social Communication” with HKBU students, staff and members of the public.
Dr Feder said that technology can be used in many ways to support the development of social communication among people. The lecture included the most recently evidenced general models for supporting social communication and several kinds of technology-assisted approaches that can utilise these models, including the use of well-designed video games, online training and support for parents and professionals, use of an app to allow efficient use of video coding and other technologies, to improve the social skills of people with communication difficulties.
