HKBU hosted its annual Employers’ Luncheon today (6 February), providing an opportunity for graduating students to meet with potential employers while enhancing the ties of the University with business and community leaders. Around 600 people including students, staff, and employers from various sectors attended the luncheon.
Guest speaker Mr Andrew Yao Cho-fai, Chairman of Van Shung Chong Holdings Limited and Deputy Chairman of HKBU Council and the Court shared on “Opportunities for University Students in China”. He cited examples of the rapid development in innovative technology, the economy and infrastructure of Shanghai to illustrate the immense job opportunities available for fresh graduates.
Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, said the Luncheon is not just an opportunity for students to meet and learn from corporate leaders from various sectors, it is also a chance for the University to showcase the quality of its education.
Professor Chin said that HKBU equips students to be thinkers and innovators who acquire knowledge not available through search engines; prepare themselves to be employable for careers which are not yet known; and prepare themselves to be globally able. He said, over the years, HKBU graduates are positively rated by employers, affirming the quality teaching and learning at HKBU.
