The Department of Education Studies held a Fulbright Scholar Public Lecture on 17 December given by Fulbright Scholar Professor Lily Chen-Hafteck, Professor of Music Education at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and Chair of the Faculty of the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. Her lecture about designing an integrated music curriculum for young children attracted 150 child educators and members of the public.

Professor Chen-Hafteck reported on a research project on the design and implementation of a childhood music curriculum for Hong Kong kindergartens. The study was conducted in three local kindergartens. Professor Chen-Hafteck highlighted that an arts-based interdisciplinary curriculum in preschool classrooms can motivate children to learn, enhances the teaching and learning processes and nurtures children into well-rounded and creative individuals.
