HKBU Diamond Jubilee Golf Day raises HK$1.16 million for the University’s long-term development

In celebration of its 60th anniversary, the University organised the HKBU Diamond Jubilee.Regal Holdings Golf Day 2016 at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling last Friday (4 November). The event successfully raised HK$1.16 million in support of the University’s long-term development.

 

The event attracted 168 participants including 129 golf lovers who formed 33 teams to compete for 22 awards. As a token of appreciation, souvenirs were presented to sponsors who have provided support for the Golf Day for over ten years.  

 

Officiating at the Tee-Off Ceremony were Mr Carlson Tong, Chairman of the University Grants Committee; Mr Yeung Tak-keung, Commissioner for Sports of the HKSAR Government; Mr Allan Kwong, Title Sponsor and Chairman and Chief Executive of Regal Holdings Corporation; Mr Godwin Kwong, Representative of the Title Sponsor, Regal Holdings Corporation; Dr Ronald Lu and Ir Dr Peter Wong, Co-Chairmen of the Organising Committee; Mr So Wing-kin, Vice-Chairman of the Organising Committee; Mr Norman Wu, Member of the Board of Governors, HKBU Foundation and Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor.

 

After rounds of competitions, Mr Timothy Lam Jr.’s Team snatched the overall championship while the first runner-up and second runner-up prizes went to the Baptist Chemists and Mr Lau Pak-shing’s Team respectively. The Baptist Chemists also captured the Alumni Cup. To make the event even more interesting, a new prize “Best Ball Retaining Team” was introduced this year and 11 teams were awarded, namely the teams of Dr Wilfred Wong, Lung Cheong, CMA, Silver Room, FO 1, Dr Ronald Lu, Kum Shing Group 2 and Group 4, TUVE, SML and EO. 

 

In the individual contests, Mr Simon Cheung and Ir Kelvin Tang claimed the Net Score championship respectively, while Professor Chung Pak-kwong won the Net Score first runner-up, and Mr S M Kan received the Net Score second runner-up prize.  The Longest Drive for Men (on the 4th Hole) prize went to Mr Max Wong, while the winner of the Longest Drive for Ladies (on the 18th Hole) was Datin’ Diana Wong.  The awards for the Closest to the Pin (on the 2nd Hole and the 12th Hole) were presented to Mr Simon Cheung and Mr Manson Chan respectively. Mr Alex Shuen got the Closest to the Line on the 1st Hole Fairway prize.

 

In addition, Mr Max Wong scooped the Best Gross and the Most Gross Pars. Mr Andy Kwok, Dato’ Dr K K Wong, Mr Max Wong, Ir Kelvin Tang and Mr Alec Tam won the Most Gross Birdies respectively. Ms Pauline Tsang clinched the Most Gross Eagles, while Professor Chung Pak-kwong won the Putting Competition Champion. 

 

The annual Golf Day is one of the major fundraising and fellowship events of the University and has raised an aggregate amount of over HK$13 million since 2004.
