With a central theme of ‘Transition”, the Faculty of Social Sciences organised the 4th Global Social Science Graduate Student Conference which brought together around a hundred students from 25 universities in Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam and India to discuss cutting edge scholarship in social sciences on 22 April.
At the opening ceremony, Professor Adrian Bailey, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, said that the Conference was organised in celebration of HKBU’s 60th anniversary and the 45th anniversary of the Faculty of Social Sciences with the aim of providing an opportunity for students to share their research work and network professionally.
The conference featured a keynote address delivered by Professor Hoshino Toshiya, Executive Vice President of Osaka University, who spoke on the effect global processes and systems have on everyday life and the wellbeing of society. In the seven parallel sessions, the participants exchanged views and presented their latest studies on a wide array of topics, such as social psychology, migration, economics and social development, historical study and biography, and Contemporary China studies.
A paper competition open to all presenters was organised as part of the Conference programme.
