The Department of Marketing recently collaborated with Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG) to launch the first-of-its-kind internship programme for 13 undergraduate students of the School of Business majoring in marketing concentration. Participating students will get a chance to work with top players in the industry to produce a new album for Angela Hui, an artiste of EEG and Year 4 student of the Department of Finance and Decision Sciences. Through the production, students will gain first-hand experience of industry operations and be able to apply what they learnt in the degree course. A press briefing was held by the Department of Marketing together with EEG, Emperor Entertainment Academy for Performing Arts and HKBU Alumni Affairs Office on 21 March to mark the launch of the cross-sector partnership.
The collaboration is one of the initiatives under the marketing internship scheme of the Department of Marketing. The 13 students will commence their internship in May to prepare for the production of Angela’s debut album, including overall planning for song composition, music video filming, image consultancy as well as album promotion. They will also be offered a valuable opportunity to take classes at Emperor Entertainment Academy for Performing Arts and will be given guidance by a panel of tutors and mentors, such as professional artiste, composer, lyricist, producer and director. Through the internship programme, students will gain experience of industry operations and understand more about the importance of intellectual property.
In his opening remarks, Mr Ng Yu, CEO of EEG thanked HKBU for the opportunity to embark on such an explorative collaboration. The programme aims to provide students with all-round experience in music production and marketing, and most important of all, to cultivate a respect for intellectual property among the young generation.
Dr Henry Fock, Head of the Department of Marketing, thanked EEG for offering 13 internship places for HKBU students. He is thankful that EEG has put up a panel of their best tutors for the students, and the Department will complement this arrangement by offering its teaching award-winning faculty members to assist the students in achieving the course learning objectives.
