To commemorate the 55th Anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Science, around 150 guests, staff, students and alumni gathered at the spring gathering held on Saturday, 27 February.
This year, the guest of honour included Mr Cheng Yan-kee, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU; Professor Ng Ching-fai, President of the Beijing Normal University – HKBU United International College; Mr Alfred Lee, Chairman of the Faculty Advisory Committee; Professor Ko Jan-ming, former Head of the Faculty’s Department of Civil Engineering; Mr Bernard Wu, Honorary Member of the Court of HKBU; Professor Tang Tao, Vice-President (Research) of South University of Science and Technology of China; Mr Leung Ka-wing, Chairman of the Steering Committee on Alumni Relations of the Faculty; and Professor Ricky Wong, Associate Vice-President of HKBU.
Mr Cheng Yan-kee said that 2016 is a special year in which the University celebrates its 60th Anniversary, and at the same time the Faculty of Science is marking its 55th Anniversary. Mr Cheng reaffirmed the vital importance of science as an integral part of the University’s academic enterprise. He encouraged the Faculty to continue breathing new impetus into science education to bring out the best in the next generation and cultivate in them values and commitment for a better world.
In his remarks, Professor Liu Jiming, Acting Dean of Science, attributed the achievements of the Faculty in the past 55 years to the dedicated efforts of the faculty staff and students, and the strong support from alumni. He called on the participants to continue rendering their support to the University and the Faculty.
