Mr Cheung thanked the University for organising this annual event enabling employers to share their wisdom and experience with the students who are the future leaders of Hong Kong. He said that human capital is Hong Kong’s most valuable asset and looked at the mega trend of the human capital landscape of the city.
Dr Choi said that human capital, including knowledge, skills and experience collectively possessed by individuals in a population, represents a form of wealth which is key to achieving the goals of a city. He gave an overview on the youth mentoring, career training and whole person development efforts by the Government and business sectors to explain the ingredients required for enhancing youth capital.
Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, encouraged the students to embark on the journey of going global, to innovate and to be creative. He highlighted three trends in today’s higher education world, they are: the world’s well-educated population is ever growing; the higher education world is flat meaning there is equal opportunity to compete; and university graduates no longer confine their career locally but seek out prospects in foreign countries leading to greater career mobility.
The guests who attended the luncheon are mainly senior executives from local firms and international corporations in various sectors, including the education sector, government, public relations and communications, medical, business associations, accountancy, marketing, non-government associations, technology, retail, manufacturing, and catering and hospitality.
