Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation hosted a Thanksgiving Reception today (20 January) to express its appreciation to donors for their support. Around 130 guests including the Foundation Board of Governors, members and friends of HKBU joined the Reception.
In his speech, Dr Wilfred Wong, Chairman of the HKBU Foundation expressed his gratitude to all donors. Since its establishment, the HKBU Foundation has raised over HK$1.1 billion, which includes the matching fund secured through the HKSAR Government’s Matching Grant Scheme. He said this result is phenomenal and helps the University to implement an array of advancement projects.
He added that the scale of the HKBU Foundation has grown substantially, with the number of members increasing nearly threefold in seven years, over half the members have maintained a close and long-standing relationship with HKBU spanning more than 10 years and the same vision has been passed from one generation to the next.
Addressing the occasion, Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor, said that he has met with a number of supporters since he took office in September last year and sincerely thanked them for their constructive suggestions on HKBU’s strategic development.
With a view to the future, Professor Chin said that HKBU will continue to promote internationalisation and support more students to go overseas on exchange with an aim of acquiring a global vision. HKBU aspires to become a world-class liberal arts university in Asia, with an emphasis on research particularly in promoting inter-disciplinary research. The University will encourage creativity and innovation, and to this end, it will establish additional chair professorships with an aim of attracting top-tier academics and enhancing its quality teaching and learning. HKBU will continue to encourage knowledge transfer, not only to commercialise research conducted at the University but also to encourage staff and students to contribute to the community.
Dr Wilfred Wong and Professor Roland Chin presented certificates to honorary vice-presidents, honorary directors and directors of the HKBU Foundation to thank the donors for their generosity.
The Hong Kong Baptist University Foundation was established in early 2009 with a mandate to secure more resources to sustain the University’s development in every sphere in fulfillment of its mission of Whole Person Education.
