The University received a donation of HK$2.75 million from the Hung Hing Ying and Leung Hau Ling Charitable Foundation for the establishment of an endowment fund in support of the Hong Kong Annual Writers’ Forum to be organised by the Language Centre of the Faculty of Arts. The Forum aims to inspire and reward talented young writers in Hong Kong so as to promote the spirit of literary creativity.

The University held a cheque presentation ceremony today (7 December) in recognition of the Foundation’s generosity. Officiating at the ceremony were Ms Belinda Hung, co-founder of the Hung Hing Ying and Leung Hau Ling Charitable Foundation, Professor Roland Chin, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, and Professor Chen Zhi, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts. Guests who attended the ceremony were Ms Susanna Chow; Professor Frank Fu, Associate Vice-President and Secretary-General of the HKBU Foundation; Ms Angela Ng, Acting Head of the Language Centre; Dr Ng Hok-chung, Head of the Chinese Session, Language Centre; and Dr Chu Siu-cheung, Senior Lecturer of the Language Centre.

The Foundation donated HK$3 million to the Faculty of Arts last year to establish the “Hung Leung Hau Ling Intervarsity Creative Writing Competition Perpetual Fund” with the aim of arousing young people’s interest in writing and enhancing the creative writing environment.

The Hong Kong Annual Writers’ Forum will be organised by the Language Centre with the aim of encouraging Hong Kong youths to showcase their talents in creative writing. The first Forum will be held in 2017.
