Lai Sze-fat (European Studies-French Stream, Year 3) was among the first awardees of the "Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme" and will start his Master of Science in International Planning at University College London in mid-September.

Sze-fat was excited to receive the scholarship, he said: "Europe has a lot of lessons to offer on urban innovations, like those examples highlighted in the conferences organised by the HKBU-based European Union Academic Programme (EUAP). I would like to inject a stronger dose of international perspectives into my urban studies, with the desire to bring home more urban solutions and innovations." He is grateful to the Department of Government and International Studies for creating this unique programme in European politics and society which exposes its students to the European world view.

The Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme was launched by the HKSAR Government in November 2014 with an aim to support outstanding local students to pursue studies in world-renowned universities outside Hong Kong, with a view to grooming a top cadre of talents with global vision, international network and world-class education, thereby contributing to enhancing Hong Kong's competitiveness as Asia's World City in a globalised knowledge economy. This year a total of 25 students were awarded scholarships for postgraduate programmes.
