More than 10 HKBU members were honoured by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on 1 July for their distinguished service to the community, including current and former chairmen of the Council and the Court, Mr Cheng Yan-kee and Dr Wilfred Wong.
Dr Li Dak-sum, Sponsoring Director, Development Committee of the HKBU Jao Tsung-I Academy of Sinology, was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in recognition of his long and distinguished community and philanthropic service.
Dr Wilfred Wong, Chairman of the Board of Governor of the HKBU Foundation and former Chairman of the Council and the Court, and Dr Peter Lee, Honorary Permanent President of the HKBU Foundation, were awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star for their long and distinguished public and community service.
Mr Cheng Yan-kee, Chairman of the Council and the Court, Mr Irons Sze, Honorary Court Member and a Chemistry alumnus, Mr Choi Ngai-min, Sponsoring Member of the HKBU Foundation and a Business alumnus, Dr Wong Man-li, Honorary Vice-President of the HKBU Foundation, and Mrs So Chan Wai-hang, Honorary President of the HKBU Foundation, were awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star.
Mrs Mak Tse How-ling, a China Studies alumna, was awarded the Medal of Honour, while Mr Ngai Ping-long, a Communication alumnus, was awarded the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Government/Public Service.
Meanwhile, Mr Michael Hui, Council Member, Mr Henry Tong and Ms Tsui Li, Honorary Court Members, and Mr Wong Ting-chung, Honorary Vice-President of the HKBU Foundation, were appointed as Justices of the Peace.
