New book Close-up on Scholars brings readers to the world of scholars

30 Jun 2015

HKBU announced today (30 June) the launch of Close up on Scholars, a new Chinese compilation book that contains stories of 34 HKBU scholars. The launch event was officiated by Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, and attended by some of the scholars featured in the book.

In his speech, Professor Chan said: “The book Close-up on Scholars allows readers to gain a better understanding of the scholars’ world. I believe that after reading this book, they will be inspired by the scholars’ personal goals, ambitions, professionalism and unique experiences.” He felt honoured to be invited to write the preface before his retirement. He also commended the stories saying they allowed him to learn another side of his colleagues through the literary world and gave him strength in his future academic research.

Close-up on Scholars, jointly published by HKBU and the Commercial Press, contains 34 “People” stories published on Eyes on HKBU, the University’s e-newsletter, between late 2010 and early 2014. These stories, edited by Dr Chu Siu-cheung of the Language Centre, give readers a holistic view of scholars.

From now till 31 July, a charity sale is being held, allowing members of the HKBU community to order the book at a special price of HK$70. All proceeds will go to the “Albert and Mabel Chan Exchange Scholarship” which provides financial support for students participating in exchange studies in Mainland or overseas universities. The book is also on public sale in all bookstores of the Commercial Press, Joint Publishing (HK) and Chung Hwa Book Company at a price of HK$88.
