HKBU organised a public lecture as part of the Institute of Creativity Renowned Scholars-in-Residence programme on 13 March. Professor Dudley R Herschbach, Frank B Baird, Jr Professor of Science, Emeritus, Harvard University and 1986 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, delivered a talk entitled "The Impossible Takes a Little Longer", attended by around 180 participants including the University community, HKBU alumni and secondary school students.

In the talk, Professor Herschbach elaborated on his views about science, which achieves wonderful things that had been regarded as "impossible", through many stories of notable people in history. He said the beauty of science is that it falls within the range of ordinary human capacity.

As a tip to the audience who are interested in science, Professor Herschbach used the lyrics of a song "Be curious… Get furious… Experiment! And you'll see" to conclude his talk, encouraging students to focus their energies on generating a fresh view of something that they do not know, instead of looking for a correct answer.

The lecture is sponsored by the Hung Hin Shiu Charitable Foundation.
