China Studies Programme celebrated its 25th anniversary with an Anniversary Dinner on 4 March which was attended by around 300 guests, including staff, students, alumni and friends of the Programme. The officiating guests were Mr Andy Lee, Vice-President (Administration) and Secretary of HKBU, and Professor Chen Qi, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Tsinghua University.
In his speech, Mr Andy Lee commended the Programme’s efforts in striving for excellence in education over the years. He also talked about the founding of the Programme and expressed his gratitude to the successive Programme Directors and to Tsinghua University for their 25 years of support.
Mr Alvin Lee, President of China Studies Alumni Association, shared with the participants the outstanding advancement of the “Hope School Project” in Guangxi which established a primary school to provide education opportunities for more children on the Chinese mainland. He thanked the University, the Programme office and all the guests for their support to the Project in the past three years.
A video was shown to highlight the year-round celebratory events which include a Lecture Series on Interdisciplinary Studies, an Oral History Book of HKBU Student-centered Learning Experience in Beijing, 1989-2014: the Summer Sojourn of the China Studies Programme at Tsinghua University as well as a series of celebratory events organised with Wei Lun Academic Exchange Centre.
