HKBU celebrated the 6th anniversary of the HKBU Foundation at a Thanksgiving Reception today (3 February), through which the University expressed its appreciation to the donors for their support to the Foundation. More than 140 guests including the Foundation Board of Governors, members and friends of HKBU attended the Reception.
Addressing the occasion, Dr Wilfred Wong, Chairman of the HKBU Foundation said, “HKBU raised HK$381 million in the Sixth Matching Grant Scheme launched by the Government and secured HK$208 million in matching funds. With an impressive record-breaking result, HKBU was ranked fourth among the 17 participating tertiary institutions.” In addition, he said the scale of the HKBU Foundation has grown substantially, with the number of members increasing nearly threefold in six years, from 131 at its time of establishment to 520 currently. He expressed his gratitude to the Board of Governors, members of the Entrepreneur Committee and Alumni Committee for their valuable insights which have helped the University broaden its social network and fundraising development. Dr Wong also expressed his appreciation to Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, who will retire in June 2015, for his unswerving efforts and donations to the HKBU Foundation. Over the years, Professor Chan has personally donated over HK$3 million to the University.
Professor Albert Chan highlighted the major University achievements in various fields. He said he was grateful for the opportunity to develop close relationships with many staunch donors during his five-year term of headship. With a view to the future, and as a family member of the HKBU Foundation, he would be pleased to continue to offer support to the development of HKBU. At the reception, he read aloud a couplet he had composed to express his sincere gratitude to the Foundation Board members and donors for their continued support.
Dr Wilfred Wong and Professor Albert Chan presented certificates to 16 Honorary Vice-Presidents, Honorary Directors and Directors of the Foundation to thank the donors for their generosity.
The HKBU Foundation is committed to raising funds for the development of HKBU and extending the University’s social network. The Foundation’s efforts have facilitated the implementation of an array of advancement projects of far-reaching impact.
