A team of College of International Education students studying Associate Degree in Film, Television and Digital Media Studies won the Best Film Award in the Student Division of the Fresh Wave 2014-International Short Film Festival with their entry "Neighbour".
The award-winning short film was directed by Cai Jiahao (Associate Degree, Year 2). The film tells the story of Yi Yao, a new immigrant from Mainland China who was shocked to find a male dead body at her front door on the third day after her arrival in Hong Kong. Feeling alone and helpless before her roommate arrived, she sought comfort from the company of a goldfish she had bought. Please click here to watch the trailer of the short film.
The adjudicators commended the short film: "An interesting topic. The feature film has an engaging atmosphere with solid performance. Well directed and tonally impressive."
Fresh Wave 2014-International Short Film Festival was organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. A total of 37 films were entered into the Local Competition Section to compete for the "Best Film", "Best Creativity", "Best Script" and "Best Cinematography" awards under the Open Division and Student Division.
