The “INNO-Action! HKBU Academy of Film Seeds Project” today (4 July) presented 14 awards to winners of its 3rd Digital Short Video Competition. Leung Kwok-pang from Yuen Long Merchants Association Secondary School, director of Aggot's Story, won the Best Director award and the Best Cinematography award. The Best Drama award went to The End, submitted by Po Leung Kuk Ngan Po Ling College, while Tsang Pik Shan Secondary School’s entry My Chance and my Goal was named the Best Documentary.
Today’s award presentation ceremony was officiated by Mrs Janet Chu, Assistant Head of Create Hong Kong (CreateHK), Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government; Mr Michael Chan, Executive Director, Youth.gov.hk, Efficiency Unit, HKSAR Government; Mr Tong Kay-ming, Director and Jury of the 3rd Digital Short Video Competition; and Professor Cheuk Pak-tong and Dr Sobel Chan, Senior Lecturer, of the Academy of Film, School of Communication.
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Cheuk said that the Seeds Project in its third edition attracted more than 1,000 students from over 100 secondary schools to participate in its various activities. He said: “The Digital Short Video Competition, one of the highlights of the Seeds Project, received a total of 142 submissions this year, and the standard was encouraging. We will continue our efforts to cultivate more talent who are interested in the film and television sector of Hong Kong’s creative industries.”
Mr Chan was also impressed by the students’ active participation in the Seeds Project and their excellent performance in the Competition. Specifically, he noted a big leap in both the quality and quantity of entries in the documentary category, among which the entries that discussed social issues were remarkably outstanding. Mr Chan encouraged students to acquire more knowledge outside classroom by producing more short videos relating to social issues.
The 3rd Digital Short Video Competition attracted entries from 76 secondary schools with 112 dramas and 30 documentaries competing for 10 drama awards and four documentary awards. Members of the adjudication panel include Dr Sobel Chan, Senior Lecturer of the Academy of Film of the School of Communication, Mr Lam Kee-to, scriptwriter, and Mr Tong Kay-ming, director.
The “Meeting with the Judges” seminar facilitated by Dr Sobel Chan was held immediately after the ceremony, during which Mr Tong Kay-ming and Mr Lam Kee-to shared with students about creativity and their experiences in creative work.
INNO-Action! HKBU Academy of Film Seeds Project is a creative training project for secondary school students. It has been initiated and developed by the Academy of Film of the School of Communication of HKBU and Youth.gov.hk, and sponsored by the CreateHK office of the HKSAR Government. The Digital Short Video Competition of the Seeds Project aims to nurture young students’ creativity and potential through creative filmmaking.
