HKBU recently received a generous donation of HK$1 million from the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, designated for the "Dr Sun Yat-sen Research Fund" of the Department of History to promote academic activities and research work in relation to Dr Sun Yat-sen, the great revolutionary forerunner.
In recognition of the Foundation's generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony was held today (26 May 2014). Officiating at the ceremony were Dr Tan Siu-lin, Chairman of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation and the Sun Yat-sen Education and Charity Foundation, Mr Chan Kam-lit, Vice Chairman of the Sun Yat-sen Education and Charity Foundation, Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Frank Fu, Associate Vice-President, Professor Adrian Bailey, Dean of Social Sciences, and Professor Mak King-sang, Head of the Department of History.
Also attending the ceremony were Mr Li Hexie, Secretary General of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, and Mr Christopher Ho, Director of the Chairman's Office, Luen Thai International Group.
Dr Tan Siu-lin is a staunch supporter of HKBU. He donated HK$1 million through Luen Thai International Group in 2009 and HK$100,000 in the name of Tan Siu Lin Foundation in 2012, designated respectively for the establishment of the "Dr Sun Yat-sen Research Fund" and for the purchase of databases for studying the history of the late Qing dynasty and modern China so as to advance the research work of Dr Sun Yat-sen's life and contributions to China.
