Graduating students donned graduation gowns and attended the 55th Baccalaureate Service organised by the Chaplain’s Office yesterday (23 April) to express their thankfulness through hymns, scripture reading and prayer.

In his address, Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, said convocation and graduation ceremonies are the happiest times for educators. At convocation ceremonies, teachers see hope in the eyes of students and aspire to give them the best education. At graduation ceremonies, educators see the fruit of their work. Professor Chan said the University’s whole person education aims at nurturing graduates with seven attributes and the highest standard of ethics in serving people. He wished all the students a bright future.

Dr David Pao, Professor of the New Testament and Chair of the New Testament Department at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, USA, was invited to speak at the Baccalaureate Service. Based on scripture from 1 Timothy of the New Testament of the Bible, he shared with students the message of “Let no one despise you for your youth” because young people can set an example for others in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity. Moreover, young people are full of hope and can change the world, so they must not be looked down upon.

HKBU has been upholding the tradition of Christian universities of hosting a Baccalaureate Service every year. Apart from staff and students, parents also attended this year’s Baccalaureate Service.
