HKBU hosts luncheon to bridge communications between students and potential employers

23 Jan 2014

HKBU held its annual Employers’ Luncheon today (23 January), providing an opportunity to strengthen the University’s connections with various sectors. It also gave students an occasion to meet with senior executives from renowned companies and organisations that could be their future employers. About 500 people, including guests, HKBU graduating students, staff and alumni, attended the Luncheon.

Mr. Adrian Chng, Chief Executive Officer of jobsDB Group, delivered a keynote speech entitled “Connect and Disconnect: The myth of cyber highway”. Mr. Chng said that with the advancement of the internet and technology, Hong Kong people’s job-seeking preference has changed dramatically to rely on mobile internet. This required business organisations to adapt their approaches when searching for candidates. The rapidly evolving shift in the internet creates mutual value and opportunities for both career-seekers and businesses.

In his welcome remarks, Mr. Cheng Yan-kee, Chairman of the Council and the Court of HKBU, encouraged students to use the occasion to explore the business world that they soon would be part of. He also invited participating employers to explore the potential and all-round development of HKBU students who had received whole person education, which is HKBU’s guiding ethos, at the University.

Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU summarised some of the University’s latest developments and the tremendous progress made in the three focus areas identified in HKBU’s 10-year development plan: quality teaching and learning, innovative research and community engagement.
