The Institute of Creativity invited three distinguished scholars in the fields of arts and science to speak at three lectures held last week.

On Monday (29 April), Professor Douglas Robinson, Dean of Arts, delivered a lecture entitled “Do we extend beyond our bodies?” based on his forthcoming book Feeling Extended: Sociality as Extended Body-Becoming-Mind. From the philosophical perspective, Professor Robinson discussed whether people’s minds, not only their bodies, would extend as well when controlling an external tool like using a computer or driving a car.

Professor Tan Weihong, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Chemo/Biosensing and Chemometrics of Hunan University and Distinguished Professor of the University Florida, USA, delivered a distinguished lecture last Tuesday (30 April). Given the revolutionary development of nanotechnology, Professor Tan discussed the new applications, opportunities and challenges of bionanotechnologies and nanomaterials in bioanalysis and biomedicine.

Mr. Ye Wenfu, renowned Chinese poet, delivered a public lecture entitled “垂淚三江水,斷腸幾首詩” last Thursday (2 May). Mr. Ye conveys his life experience through poetry. He recited some of his renowned work during the lecture, giving the audience an insight into his mind.
