The Office of Student Affairs held a Scholarship and Bursary Donors’ Tea Reception on Tuesday (30 April) to thank donors for their care and generosity to the University over the years and to provide an opportunity for the beneficiaries to express their gratitude to the donors in person.
In his speech, Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, thanked the donors for their generous and continuing support and said their donations of scholarships and bursaries are of great significance to the University. He said the awards not only encouraged students by recognising their efforts and achievements, but also provided them with the financial resources to serve the community, explore the world and realise their dreams.
A video was shown at the reception featuring 11 scholarship recipients from different Schools and Faculties expressing their gratitude to the donors by sharing their various learning experiences.
This year, the University received generous donations from more than 170 organisations, professional bodies, firms and individuals. Over 950 scholarship awards totalling around HK$26 million were presented to nearly 850 outstanding students from different Schools and Faculties. In addition, around 220 students were granted a total of HK$2.4 million in bursaries and loans donated by 30 organisations or individuals.
