The University recently received a generous donation of HK$1 million from Mr. Herman Hui designated for the establishment of the Ada S.H. Li Social Work Practicum Scholarship. The scholarships will be awarded to outstanding Social Work students to gain practical experience outside Hong Kong, in places such as Canada, Australia, Singapore, Mainland China and Taiwan, enabling them to broaden their horizons. In recognition of the donor’s generosity, a cheque presentation ceremony officiated by Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor, was held today (6 February).

Mr. Herman Hui is a lawyer and he has been a Guest Lecturer of the Law and Society course of HKBU’s Bachelor of Social Work programme since 2003. The scholarship was established in memory of his mother, Mrs. Ada Li, who also taught in the Department of Social Work in its early years.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. Hui, Professor Frank Fu, Associate Vice-President, Professor Adrian Bailey, Dean of Social Sciences, Professor Petrus Ng, Head of the Department of Social Work, Dr. Angela Tsun, Associate Head, Professor Victor Wong and Dr. William Wong of the Department, Professor Chan Kai Fong, Chairperson of the HKBU Social Work Learning and Exchange Foundation Fund, and Mrs. Lily Chan, Director of University Advancement.
