Cindy Tsang and Hilary Ho of the College of International Education (Associate Degree, Year 1) recently won a gold medal in the Teacher Category of Single Piano, Four Hands at the 7th Shenzhen China Piano Duo (Two Pianos and Fours Hands) Competition.
Piano duos require good coordination between partners, harmony and balance, as well as smooth control of dynamics and tempo. Cindy said: “I would like to thank our lecturer for encouraging and coaching us for the competition. It was an unprecedented opportunity to have an exchange with other top players. I believe that the key to our success was the good partnership forged in the two months of intensive practice.”
Hilary said: “We are really excited to win our first prize in an open competition. It is a recognition of our dedicated efforts. Playing a duo enabled me to understand the importance of partnership as I have to coordinate with my partner to deliver a perfect, harmonious performance.”
The adjudicators were seven world-renowned pianists and educators from Hong Kong and Guangzhou.
