Mr. Tik-fan, Chan (T.C.), is an Associate Professor of Practice whose nearly three-decade career bridges academia and influential technology brands. After graduating, he joined Agence France-Presse in 1997 as a multimedia designer, creating dynamic infographics for the news desks.
A passion for design education soon drew him back to academia: from 2003, he taught interaction, visual communication, and new media courses at PolyU. In 2006, the Li Ka Shing Foundation invited him to Shantou University to establish the region’s first Digital Media bachelor’s programme and the 8×Space Media Lab, which educates professionals for the mobile internet industries in China. In 2012, TC’s.. expertise in design thinking and service innovation was tapped by the University of Hong Kong’s Institute for China Business, where he established two postgraduate diplomas—Product Innovation and Creativity Management, and Service Design and Experience Strategy—while delivering executive programmes for more than thousands of professions that seeded service-design and product innovation across China in decade.
At OPPO, he headed the UEED Centre, inventing the holistic experience for OPPO’s AI Assistant and android-based ColorOS mobile system. At Tencent, he led the ISUX User & Marketing Research Centre, conducting over twenty multi-method studies to support business decisions. Motorola recruited him next as Asia UI/UX Director to develop Motorola’s AI product MotoVoice, and integrate AI Products like Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa into Motorola devices. In 2018, T.C. launched the ULifestyle super-app, featuring an AI-powered feed-ranking and targeted marketing system at the HKET Group. He established Vivo’s Smart IoT Devices Design Centre, where he defined OS roadmaps for AR glasses, smartwatches, and biotech wearables while supervising the design of software products and user experience.
Most recently, as CTO and Vice President of KimDai AI Technology, he balanced commercial imperatives with social impact, scaling an AI and STEM education platform that served over 54,000 students and delivered LLM-supported customer services through the human-like conversational terminal. With over thirty international patents, an iF Design Award, a CES Innovation Award, and the 1st Prize of the Robotic Business Innovation Roadshow, his commitment to translating innovation into real-world impact is evident.
Besides his full-time duties, he has supervised postgraduate students, mentored start-up projects at PolyU, CUHK, HKU, and SUSTech, and delivered more than 40 public keynotes on AI services, User Experience, and Business Innovation. Now, T.C. joined the Hong Kong Baptist University’s School of Communication as a full-time faculty member, where he participates in the Interactive Media Department.
